Selling - Listing Items for Sale
How do I list an item in Books, Music, Movies and Games?
Before you can list on Half.com, you need to be a registered Half Seller.
Do you have a textbook to sell? Find out about selling textbooks on Half.com.
You can also list your items through the AddItem API. For more information, see the Add Item API documentation.
How do I determine the best price for my items?
Please note that the minimum price you can list an item for is $0.75 (75 cents). To help you price your product competitively, we'll provide you with a suggested selling price (if we have retail prices available). We calculate the suggested selling price based on the best online retail price for a new copy of the item adjusted to reflect the quality of the item at the time it's listed. Here's the pricing table we use:
For example, for a book in Acceptable quality with an original list price of $20, and a best online retail price of $10, we suggest a price of $3.50.
What if I can't find the item I want to list?
Sometimes an item you want to list won't be available in our database. In this case, it's important that you not list it under another format or title. For example, don't list a VHS tape under a DVD listing. Buyers don't always read comments and may purchase the wrong item unknowingly.
How do I report an error in your catalog?
We do our best to make sure our catalog is up to date, but sometimes listings can turn up with incorrect product information. Please report these errors to us so we can update the information. To report a catalog error, scroll down to the bottom of the main product page and click the "Did you find errors in this product information? Submit a catalog update request now" Link.
Note: You won't receive a response when you report an error. Please send only catalog repairs. If you have additional questions please send them to Customer Service using our Help Wizard.
How do I list an item that's not in your catalog?
We can accept requests for additions to our catalog in the books, music, movies, games, and game systems categories. If you have an item that you'd like to see added to our catalog, go to Help Wizard > Selling > How can I request an Addition to the catalog? Choose the appropriate category and enter the information requested. You'll need to have some information ready, such as the item's title, ISBN or UPC, author or publisher, format, and so on.
To request an addition, go to the Help Wizard .
What are ISBN and UPC numbers?
International Standard Book Numbers (ISBNs) and Universal Product Codes (UPCs) are product numbers. Every ISBN and UPC is unique (no two products have the same number), so these numbers are used to identify specific products.
Half.com uses ISBNs to make it easier for you to find or list items in our Books category.
Note: Since January 1, 2007, all books have been identified by a 13-digit ISBN. However, you can still search for books on Half.com with either the older 10-digit or newer 13-digit ISBN.
Half.com uses UPCs to make it easier for you to find or list music or movies.
My item doesn't have an ISBN/UPC code. Can I still list it?
No. Items must be listed using the ISBN or UPC printed on the product by the manufacturer. If your item doesn't have an ISBN or UPC, we recommend that you consider listing the item on eBay. For more information, see the Proper Category Listings Policy .
Can I sell music that is not on CD?
Our music category is for compact discs (CDs) only. Regrettably, music recorded on other media, such as cassettes or LP records, can't be sold on Half.com.
Can I sell audio books on cassette?
Yes, you can sell audio books on cassette, but not music on cassettes. Follow the standard "Sell Your Stuff" instructions to list an audio book using ISBN to list your item.
If listing by ISBN doesn't work, you can follow these instructions:
What if I can't find the proper format for my item?
When items come in multiple formats, it's important that you choose the correct one for your listing. For example, sell paperback books under "paperback," not under "hardcover."
We update our catalog often, and if the item you want to sell doesn't have a matching listing right now, it might in the future. In the meantime, you might want to list your item on eBay.com.
The items I just listed aren't showing in my inventory.
From time to time, the system does experience some delays. This can be because a high volume of items are being listed, for example. Items usually take 2 hours to appear in your inventory, but this can take up to 24 hours.
The items I just listed aren't showing up when I do a search.
If you don't find one of your items on the site, it might be because a buyer has checked out with the item in their shopping cart. While a buyer is checking out, the item the buyer is purchasing becomes temporarily unavailable, just until the buyer's credit card has been charged. In most instances this takes only a few minutes, but in some cases it can take a little longer. If so, the item will not appear on the site or in your inventory during that time. Once the buyer's credit card has been authorized and charged, Half.com will notify you of the sale.
How long does an item stay listed in my inventory?
Once you list an item on Half.com, the item will remain listed on the site either until it is sold or until you remove it from your inventory. There are no time limits on items listed. For this reason, it's important to manage your inventory carefully. If you sell an item outside of Half.com or if an item gets damaged, be sure to remove the item from your inventory before someone purchases it.
How do I delete, edit, or suspend items in my inventory?
To delete, edit, or suspend any items you currently have listed, follow these instructions:
When you edit an item, you can change the condition, the notes, or the price. After making your changes, click the "Save Changes" button.
If you suspend an item, you can unsuspend it later by following steps 1 through 4 above.
How do I rate Item Quality?
Correctly assessing and representing the quality of an item is important because Half.com buyers make purchase decisions based on quality ratings. After the sale, the buyer rates their experience of the seller based in part on the accuracy of the quality ratings. See our guidelines for rating item quality
