Correctly assessing and representing the quality of an item is extremely important because Half.com buyers make their purchase decisions based on quality ratings. After the sale, buyers rate their experience with the seller based in part on the accuracy of the quality ratings.
You are responsible for accurately rating the condition of each item you list at Half.com. Rating the condition of listed items fairly and honestly, according to the item rating guidelines we provide, leads to buyer satisfaction and a high seller rating. Note that Half.com reserves the right to make its own evaluation of an item's quality as well as its own judgment regarding the accuracy of the seller's rating of the item in the event that a buyer makes a complaint about an item. If Half.com determines that the seller misrepresented the item's quality according to the quality rating guidelines we provide, Half.com will refund the purchase to the buyer, deduct the sale from the seller's account, and return the item to the seller at the seller's expense. Use the following guidelines to rate items you're selling: Item Quality – Books
Brand New
No missing or damaged pages
Like New
Dust jacket included for hard covers All pages undamaged (no creases or tears) No underlining/highlighting of text Is or could easily be mistaken for "Brand New"
Very Good
Books that have been read Books with remainder marks Books with these marks:
Name of previous owner in cover Underlining on 10% of pages or less Highlighting on 10% of pages or less
Good
Very minimal damage to the cover (no holes or tears, only minimal scuff marks) Dust jacket not necessarily included Majority of pages undamaged (minimal creases or tears) Minimal pencil underlining of text
Acceptable
Books with missing dust jackets Books with creases or tears Books with damaged spines Books with these marks:
Underlining on 10% of pages or more Highlighting on 10% of pages or more
Unacceptable – These items cannot be sold on Half.com:
Item Quality – CDs, Movies, Video Games
Brand New
Still in shrinkwrap (import music may be out of shrinkwrap)
Like New
Item still in shrink wrap or looks as if it was just taken out of shrink wrap All facets of product flawless and intact
Very Good
Case can be scuffed and scratched All artwork and inserts included CD and DVDs don't show wear
Good
Minor damage to jewel case (scuffs or cracks) or item cover (scuff marks, scratching, or cracks) Cover art and liner notes included for a CD. VHS and DVD box included Video game instructions included No fuzzy/snowy frames on VHS tape
Acceptable
Original packaging not included but CD/DVD needs to be in a generic case, VHS needs to have a generic sleeve Original artwork or inserts can be missing Disk can be scratched and scuffed Cartridge-only video games
Unacceptable - These items cannot be sold on Half.com:
CDs and DVDs that skip, jump, freeze, or otherwise don't function properly VHS tapes that produce poor quality images when played Imported DVDs (U.S. region 1 DVDs may be sold) Imported region-free DVDs (region-free DVDs manufactured in the U.S. may be sold) Jewel cases with promotion marks (saw cuts, punch-outs, drill holes, UPC strikes)
Item Quality – Textbooks
Brand New
Access code on CD must be valid for the buyer of the textbook
Like New
All pages undamaged (no creased, torn, or missing pages) No damage to binding (is or could easily be mistaken for "Brand New")
Very Good
Textbooks that have been read Textbooks with remainder marks Textbooks with these marks:
Underlining on 10% of pages or less Highlighting on 10% of pages or less
If book came with a CD, it must be included, but:
The CD doesn't have to be sealed The CD code may have been used The CD code may be expired
Good
Very minimal damage to the cover such as scuff marks or slightly bent corners Majority of pages undamaged (minimal creases or tears) Some pencil writing or highlighting of text (on less than 10% of the book's pages) No missing pages (you would use it yourself, but wouldn't necessarily give it as a gift)
Acceptable
Textbooks with missing dust jackets Textbooks with creases or tears Textbooks with damaged spines Textbooks with these marks:
Underlining on 10% of pages or more Highlighting on 10% of pages or more
Textbooks can be missing CDs, but seller needs to note the missing CD in description Textbooks that have been read Textbooks with remainder marks
Unacceptable - These items cannot be sold on Half.com:
Photocopied textbooks or books transferred to electronic media such as PDF International edition textbooks or teacher's edition textbooks Support materials such as test banks and solution manuals without a unique ISBN or UPC code Books without covers, books that are missing pages, or books that are stained
Item Quality – Game Systems
Brand New
Includes all manuals, OEM software, and accessories
Like New
Item still in original package OR looks as if it was just taken out of original package Has all manuals, documentation, and OEM software No wear, tear, all facets of product flawless and intact
Very Good
All required manuals included All required accessories included All required software included Original box is not required
Good
Shows some signs of use, but still in functioning condition May have original packaging and manuals
Acceptable
All required accessories included Shows considerable use, but still works May have original packaging or manuals
Unacceptable - These items cannot be sold on Half.com:
Game systems that don't function as intended by the manufacturer
