How do I rate the quality of my items?
Correctly assessing and representing the quality of an item is important because Half.com buyers make their purchase decisions based on quality ratings. After the sale, they rate their experience with the seller based in part on the accuracy of the quality ratings.
You are responsible for accurately rating the condition of each item you list at Half.com. To keep seller ratings and buyer satisfaction high, rate the condition of items fairly and honestly, using the item rating guidelines we provide. Half.com reserves the right to make its own evaluation of an item's quality and its own judgment about the accuracy of a seller's rating of the item if a buyer makes a complaint. If Half.com determines that the seller misrepresented the item's quality (according to the quality rating guidelines we provide), Half.com will refund the purchase to the buyer, deduct the sale from the sellers account, and return the item to the seller at the seller's expense. The following guidelines are to be used by sellers to rate their items.
Item Quality - Books
Brand New
In perfect, mint, undamaged condition Publisher’s remainder marks are acceptable
Like New
Used but still in perfect mint condition inside and out
Very Good
Appears new from the outside with minimal marking inside Books with these marks:
Underlining on 10% of pages or less Highlighting on 10% of pages or less Institutional ID stamps and library checkout card pockets
Good
Books with minimal damage
Scuffed covers and missing dust jackets Cover can't be creased, torn or have holes
Minimal crease or tears to majority of the pages
Acceptable
Books with damage
Creased, torn, or holes in the cover Books with damaged spines Books with more than 10% of pages highlighted or underlined
Books that have been refurbished Books that have been modified for library circulation
Embossed covers or numbered book spines
Unacceptable - The following items cannot be sold on half.com:
Books with stains or water damage
Item Quality - Textbooks
Brand New
In perfect, mint, undamaged condition Publisher’s remainder marks are acceptable All access codes for the book and the companion CD need to be valid for the buyer of the book
Like New
Used but still in perfect mint condition inside and out Access codes for the book and the companion CD can be expired or no longer valid for the buyer of the book
CD doesn't need to be sealed
Very Good
Companion CD must still be included if the book came with one Books that still appear new from the outside with minimal marking inside
Underlining of 10% of pages or less Highlighting of 10% of pages or less Institutional ID stamps and library checkout card pockets
Good
If the book originally came with a companion CD it may be missing
Seller needs to note the missing CD in the listing
Books with minimal damage
Scuffed covers, bent corners, and missing dust jackets The cover can't be creased, torn or have holes Minimal creases or tears to majority of the pages
Acceptable
Books with damage
Creased, torn, or holes in the cover Books with damaged spines Books with more than 10% of pages highlighted or underlined
Books that have been refurbished Books that have been modified for library circulation
Embossed covers or numbered book spines
Unacceptable - The following items cannot be sold on Half.com:
Stained books and books with water damage Books without covers
Includes books that have been placed into a three-ring binder
Textbook reproductions
Electronic copies or other downloadable editions
Alternate editions
Support material such as test banks Solution manuals should be listed separately by their unique ISBN number
Item Quality - Music, Movies, Video Games
Brand New
Items must still be in manufacturer's seal Opened items can't be listed in this category even if they were never used
Like New
Opened and used items that still appear brand new Must include all boxes, instructions, and artwork from manufacturer
Very Good
Cases and boxes can show wear (scuffs, cracks, scratches) DVD, CD, game disc, or game cartridge can't be scratched or scuffed Items must include all boxes, instructions, and artwork from manufacturer
Good
Item can be missing only one of the following items:
DVD, CD, game disc, or game cartridge can be lightly scratched or scuffed
The media item must work without the need of repair or resurfacing Skipping CDs, DVDs, and game discs can't be sold Fuzzy or snowy VHS tapes can't be sold Games that don't load or play can't be sold
Acceptable
Media items in generic cases
CDs and DVDs must be in a plastic case (no paper sleeves)
Items missing more than one of the following:
DVD, CD, game disc, or game cartridge can be lightly scratched or scuffed
Media item must work without the need of repair or resurfacing Skipping CDs, DVDs, and game discs can't be sold Fuzzy or snowy VHS tapes can't be sold Games that don't load or play can't be sold
Unacceptable - The following items cannot be sold on Half.com:
CDs and DVDs that skip, jump, freeze, or otherwise don't function properly Games that skip, jump, freeze, or otherwise don’t function properly Imported DVDs (U.S. region 1 DVDs may be sold) Region-free DVDs manufactured outside the United States CD jewel cases with promotion marks (saw cuts, punch-outs, drill holes, UPC strikes)
Item Quality - Game Systems
Brand New
Items must still be in manufacturer's seal Opened items can't be listed in this category even if they were never used
Like New
Opened and used items that still appear brand new Items must include all boxes, instructions, manuals, OEM software, accessories and artwork from manufacturer
Very Good
Original box is no longer required. Items must include all instructions, manuals, OEM software, accessories and artwork from manufacturer Game console and accessories must still appear to be new
Good
Game console and accessories can show minimal signs of use Game console and accessories can't be damaged Instructions, manuals, and OEM software must be included
Acceptable
Game console and accessories can show signs of use Game console and accessories must function Game console can't need repair Original boxes, instructions, manuals, OEM software, and artwork from manufacturer don't need to be included
Unacceptable - The following items cannot be sold on Half.com:
Game console doesn't function as intended
